Our client is a prestigious International School, located in Sintra.

Reporting to the Director of Finance and Operations, the Controller is responsible for preparing financial reports and documents, maintaining records, reviewing potential finances, compiling reports, and providing professional opinions in regards to the fiscal decisions of the School.


  • Prepare financial statements, including monthly and annual accounts;
  • Arrange financial management reports, including financial planning and forecasting;
  • Preparing accounts and tax returns;
  • Compiling and presenting financial and budget reports;
  • Ensure that financial statements and records comply with laws and regulations;
  • Keeping account books and systems up to date;
  • Manage all accounting operations, including Billing;
  • Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements;
  • Research technical accounting issues for compliance;
  • Support month-end and close year-end process;Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting;
  • Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings;
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls;
  • Work closely with the DFO on the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts and report variances;
  • Create various reports for the DFO;
  • Other various administrative tasks;
  • Assist the DFO directly in creating and analyzing together new financial strategies and operations;
  • Advising on how to reduce costs and increase profits.

Required Qualifications:

  • Degree in Management or Accounting;
  • More than 10 years of experience in similar functions;
  • Oral and written fluency in English and Portuguese;
  • Experience with preparing financial statements;
  • Experience with general ledger functions and month-end/year-end closing process;
  • Excellent skills in using accounting software - PRIMAVERA BSS;
  • Experience in Team Management;
  • Working knowledge of accounting standards and relevant legal regulations;
  • Strong communication skills by phone, email and in person in English and Portuguese;
  • Be able to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Strong communication, organization and time management skills;
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365;
  • Excellent administrative skills with attention to detail;
  • Data driven mindset.
